Bridge Construction Safety – What You Should Know

Bridge Construction Safety – What You Should Know

Bridge constructors are always concerned with safety. It is a top priority for us as we’re designing the bridge and during construction. The complex engineering used in bridges means that there are significant risks for workers and any visitors to the worksite. As Accredited Quality Contractors (ACQs), Nature Bridges adheres to construction safety guidelines from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).

Planning and Training

Nature Bridges maintains a comprehensive safety plan for our work, and we customize it for every construction project. When creating each plan, we do the following:

  • Identify any potential hazards.
  • Establish specific safety procedures.
  • Outline emergency procedures for a variety of situations.
  • Schedule regular safety meetings.
  • Provide any specific safety training for the construction crew.
  • Schedule inspections throughout the project life.

As part of planning for a project, Nature Bridges knows that proper training is a key component of safety in a construction site. Our crew – and any other staff that may visit a worksite – receives comprehensive safety training covering procedures, identifying hazards, operating equipment, and following emergency procedures.

Safety Measures

Safety Measures

During construction, there are essentials that we have in place to protect the construction crew. Personal protective equipment, or PPE, may depend on the specifics of the job site, but regularly includes equipment like hard hats, high-visibility clothing, gloves, and safety goggles. All of this equipment helps protect us from various dangers on the job site.

Many projects also carry the risk of a fall from an elevated walkway. Nature Bridges follows ABC guidelines to ensure that fall protection measures are in place. You may see temporary guardrails, safety nets, and other equipment that can protect us in the case of an accidental fall. Our construction crew is well-trained in climbing safely and precautions they should take while working in high places.

Safety Culture

Nature Bridges – and other Accredited Quality Contractors – foster a culture of safety throughout the organization. These are just some of the ways we maintain safe construction sites even when not on a worksite:

  • Embrace open communication
  • Regularly report safety concerns
  • Collaborate with crew, office administration, and clients
  • Hold regular safety meetings
  • Maintain reporting system for hazards
  • Recognize team members for safe practices

As Accredited Quality Contractors, everyone at Nature Bridges is held to a high standard of safety, quality, and performance in the construction industry.
