Environmental Responsibility
Building in sensitive ecosystems requires careful planning and execution.
Our mission is to design and build durable outdoor structures that connect people with nature while respecting the environments in which they are built.
Every bridge, boardwalk, and waterfront structure is constructed with safety, longevity, and environmental responsibility in mind. We believe great construction is more than completing a project—it is creating infrastructure that communities can depend on for decades.
By combining experienced craftsmanship with innovative construction methods, we help clients create safe, accessible outdoor spaces that encourage recreation, education, and conservation.

JD James started a small company in 1997 that installs architectural cabinetry and millwork. In the summer of 2002, the company completed its first boardwalk at WaterColor Inn on Florida’s Gulf Coast. That project led to additional boardwalk work for The St. Joe Company, marking the beginning of a new direction in heavy timber building.
By August 2002, Nature Bridges was officially established with a focus on designing and building timber bridges, boardwalks, and other specialty outdoor structures. As the company grew, it became a leader in top-down construction.
During the mid 2000s, Nature Bridges expanded beyond private development into municipal, state, and national park projects. This strategic shift broadened the company’s client base, increased its geographic reach, and established lasting relationships across both the public and private sectors.
Today, Nature Bridges operates five construction crews serving clients throughout much of the United States. The company continues to partner with private, public, and nonprofit organizations to build lasting connections between people and the outdoors.

Every project presents unique challenges, from protecting sensitive ecosystems to delivering durable infrastructure that serves communities for decades. Our team combines specialized construction expertise with practical problem-solving to build structures that meet those challenges while respecting the surrounding environment.

“Every project we build is an opportunity to connect people with nature and protect the environments that make those experiences possible. It is our hope that Nature Bridges will continue this mission for generations to come, creating lasting structures that serve communities and inspire outdoor experiences.”
