Nature Bridges, one of the Nation’s most prominent boardwalk and bridge builders, has begun construction of a multi-use trail for Gwinnett County, Georgia.

Tallahassee, FL – April 28, 2011 – JD James, Inc. d/b/a Nature Bridges www.naturebridges.com, announced today it has started construction of a multi-use-trail system at the George Pierce Park, in Suwannee, Georgia.

JD James, Inc. was hired by Gwinnett County in Suwanee, Georgia as a General Contractor to connect the Suwannee Creek Greenway Trail to existing trails in George Pierce Park. The 1.02 million dollar project consists of approximately 1.75 miles of multi-use trails that includes one mile of concrete trail, over 1,850 lineal feet of golf cart bridges and boardwalks, timber free span bridges over creeks, several retaining wall sections, timber curbing and scenic overlooks.

Nature Bridges constructed the 12’ wide pedestrian boardwalk using their environmentally friendly top down construction method. Their mechanically advanced machinery stays on top of the structure during construction, virtually eliminating damage to vegetation and wildlife habitats. For more information on top down construction, you can visit Nature Bridges Process.

Ms. Shirley Lasseter, District 1 Commissioner with Gwinnett County said, “I’m excited that we are able to move forward with another phase of this long-planned recreation project with funding from the 2004 SPLOST program. This trail is an excellent example of coordination between the city and the county to connect greenways that our citizens will enjoy using.”

Nature Bridges began construction in December, but met complications from one of the worst storms the Atlanta area has seen in over 30 years. “Construction was delayed for 2 weeks because roads were closed, government offices were closed, our equipment was under snow and the ground frozen solid making it impossible to begin work,” said Brent Hallford, Superintendent of Nature Bridges. However, because of the hard work of Nature Bridges’ employees and JD James, Inc. subcontractors, lost time was made up and the project is back on schedule.

The pedestrian boardwalk portion of the multi-use trail meanders through the wetlands in George Pierce Park. Once construction is completed, visitors will be able to admire grazing deer, turtles, beavers, raptors, blue herons, along with many other species of wildlife. “After walking 2 miles through the project taking construction progress photos, there is no doubt that visitors and residents of Suwannee will be pleased with how the boardwalk brings them so close to the abundant wildlife living in George Pierce Park’s wetlands,” said Robin Ridley of JD James, Inc.
